When you sign up for a marathon, you don’t want a taxi to take you to the finish line.
~Derek Sivers
We have to crave the work. We have to lean into the struggle. We have to acknowledge that the destination doesn’t change us; the journey does.
We do not need to suffer unnecessarily. We do not need to struggle just for the sake of struggling. But if we are looking for the work to be done for us, if we are looking for a way around all the hurdles, if we are looking for shortcuts, the evolution we seek may never happen.
We are not invincible. Sometimes, the fight will get the best of us. We will fail. We will get knocked down. We will need to lean on our own strengths and our own resilience. We can only be broken if we stop trying.
Why would we want to skip over the part where we earn what we get? Why would we want to miss out on the opportunity to be changed and formed by the work? Why would we want our dreams to come to us so easily that we didn’t need to take the time to dream in the first place?
Trust yourself to stay in it for the challenges. Have faith in yourself to remain resilient through struggle. Cherish the opportunity to experience the kind of life that will form us into the kind of person we wish to be. This is where our dreams are realized. This is where the best we have to offer shows up.
