April 26, 2026- Wise enough to know better

If the structure does not permit dialogue, the structure must be changed.

~Paulo Freire

Meaningful change comes out of meaningful reflection. If we are not able and willing to engage in an honest dialogue, be it with ourselves or with others, about our current circumstances and our choices that led to them, we will be stuck right where we are.

Our current habits may have come from our inability to choose intention over impulse. They may have also been created by the very best intentions, yet the behaviors we chose are still not moving us in the right direction. We have to be willing to admit that we don’t know everything, that we build wisdom as we pass through our lives and a less wise version of us chose our current habits. Tomorrow, we may be wise enough to know better than to make the same choices we made today.

If we are not willing to take a step back, to question our actions, we can’t reasonably see whether those actions are truly serving us. What we considered discipline will turn out to be ignorance.

We are not right all the time. We never were, and we never will be. Let’s be willing to reflect on our choices, nurturing those that help us evolve and changing those that don’t.
