It is also about keeping in mind what is, and what is not under our control, focusing our efforts on the former and not wasting them on the latter.
~Massimo Pigliucci
We have plenty of time. We have plenty of energy. We have skills, strengths, knowledge, and motivation. For the most part, we already have all the ingredients of the best versions of ourselves contained within us.
How much of our precious resources do we devote to things over which we have absolutely no control? How much time and energy do we spend worrying about and complaining about problems we can’t fix? What if we refocused our efforts?
How many of the things that are well within our control do we just leave to chance? How much time do we waste waiting for the perfect moment to do the perfect action? What if we refocused our efforts?
We don’t necessarily have to try harder to do better. In fact, in many cases, we need to try less. If we can stop directing our energy to things we can’t control, we would have much more of it left for the things we can.
If it is not your choice, let it go. If it is your choice, consider what the best version of you would do and do it, right now, to the best of your ability. Stop worrying about what has been and what may eventually be, and focus on the very next choice that is right in front of you. Expose the best of you, one choice at a time.
