I have come one step away from everything. And here I stay, far from everything, one step away.
~Antonio Porchia
Once again, we find ourselves in a time of transition. We are stepping away from what we have been, in favor of what we will once be. Is this familiar to us? Yes, because we will likely remain in this space for our entire lives. There will be times when we are more or less aware of the transition, but change will be constant.
Are we willing to fully embrace both sides of the equation? Are we willing to shed old habits, old behaviors, old beliefs, that may be limiting us? Are we willing to set down the baggage that we have been carrying around with us? Are we willing to allow ourselves to seek change without admonishing ourselves for not having already made it? At the same time, are we willing to believe in our capacity for growth and evolution and our worthiness of that change?
One step is progress. Even a step in the wrong direction can teach us something. One step is all we are capable of taking at one time. One step can bring us closer to something we desire, but it will always take us farther away from what we have been. We can lean on the habits and structures that serve us, while making small, sustainable changes to the areas in which we’d like to grow. We can evolve.
