We’re not supposed to know everything. Everything isn’t even known yet. We have to be willing to ask questions, to maintain a curiosity about the world around us that fits that world‘s complexities and nuances. When we pretend to know it already, we are displaying a lack of courage to admit we don’t.

Our youthful curiosity should never go away. The great thinkers of the world are learning more about the way things work every day. If those great thinkers can go on learning, certainly the rest of us can.

Isn’t it a blessing to find out we’re wrong about something? Every time that happens, we take a little weak spot and turn it into a strength. Not that we want to go around, paralyzed with the uncertainty of being wrong about everything we think we know, but we can at least be alert to and accepting of the possibility.

Arrogance or bravado can prevent us from growing. We don’t need to defer in every disagreement, to admit that we’re wrong before we are sure that we are, but we should be open to changing our minds. In doing so, we leave open the possibility of growth and of evolution.
