The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intention.
~Kahlil Gibran
Impact will always trump intent. It matters very little what we would like to do. It doesn’t matter much what we meant to do. What we do is where impact will show up.
Our intentions matter, as they will have a lot to say about determining our actions. We won’t be able to follow our dreams if we don’t have any. We won’t be able to engineer the best version of ourselves if we don’t think about what that looks like. The dreams and visions mean nothing if our actions do not align with them.
Life is not a zero-sum game. For us to win, nobody needs to lose. We can choose kindness all the time. We can lead with it. We can embody it. It will never be enough to intend to do good for others unless we act on those intentions and make the lives around us better.
All of our intentions lack form and function until we turn them into action. It is through action that we work out the kinks, that we find the holes in our theories. We can have visions of grandeur that do absolutely nothing for anyone, and we can have a simple smile that completely alters the course of someone’s day. Turn thought to action. Be good to people, especially to yourself.
