October 10, 2026- Seize the moment
It’s not the sort of night for bed, anyhow.
~Kenneth Grahame
Sometimes we have to seize the moment before it’s gone. Opportunity is not indefinite. Some doors may open before we are entirely ready to walk through them. This does not call on us to be impulsive or reckless, but it does ask us to be vigilant. Let’s not be so patient waiting for a golden opportunity that we are willing to pass up all the silver ones.
We can set aside our routines once in a while without ignoring our rituals nor our opportunities. A routine becomes a ritual when we do it with presence and intention, acknowledging its benefit in our life, rather than simply doing what we’ve always done, for better or worse. A routine becomes rote. We can easily turn on the auto pilot and ignore a unique opportunity because we were too busy following through with our plan. That plan was created before we knew everything we know now. Does it still serve us?
A ritual, however, refills our cup. It is done with intention and purpose, so sometimes it can wait until a special opportunity is grabbed.
We are our choices, and sometimes it will serve us most to set our habits aside and experience life as it comes to us. We can get back to our habits in the future. Some nights are not just not the sort of night for bed.
