All this he saw, for one moment, breathless and intense, vivid in the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wandered.

~Kenneth Grahame

Every answer we come up with as we live our lives should unearth a whole new set of questions. The grand sense of wonder we had in our childhood is hopefully never extinguished. The feeling of all we can experience when learning something new about something we thought was perfectly familiar can keep our lives fresh and interesting.

There is such magic in the present moment if we can bring our full attention to it. There is beauty in what we can observe and feel. There is curiosity in what we may be missing. There is power in what we can contribute.

Unfortunately, much of the beauty, curiosity, and power we could experience in each moment is lost because our thoughts are elsewhere. It is a great quality among humans that our brains are able to wander through time and space, but it is also a curse. How many opportunities to witness beauty are we missing while ruminating over the past? How many opportunities to exercise power are we missing while worrying about the future? How many opportunities to exercise curiosity about the present moment are we missing while we long for a different time or place than the one we are in?

Let’s settle in, right here, right now. Let’s find every opportunity to exercise curiosity, cultivate power, and experience beauty that we can.
