The mind is what the mind is fed.

~David Schwartz

We do not need to become a prisoner to our environment. We have so many options today. We can make careful choices about what goes into our mouths and what goes into our brains. We must, because not only are we what we eat, we are what we see and we are what we listen to.

Our algorithm will happily feed us whatever we will stop and stare at. These days, it’s almost impossible to decipher the fake news from the news. It serves us to view everything with a healthy dose of skepticism. It also serves us to consider what we’re going to do with every bit of information we take in. How can we use that information to make us more kind, more wise, more compassionate, more aware, more present?

Our food supply and our news supply are both built on the same premise – how can we get people to indulge, to consume more and more of what we’re trying to sell? This is how we end up with hyper-palatable products that we will crave. We get highly processed, sugar and salt-laden foods that we want to eat until we are bursting. We get highly produced, sensationalized news feeds that we can’t stop watching. Does it all serve us?

Beware of what we are cramming into our mouth, our eyes, and our ears. We are our choices.
