Let go yesterday to receive your present. Release comes before receive.

~Thema Bryant

Sometimes we bite into the pizza before we should. We know it’s still much too hot. We know the cheese will stick to the roof of our mouth and burn us. We lose our patience and we do it anyway. For the next couple of days, we can’t enjoy our food as we normally would. The burn on the roof of our mouth, caused by one momentary lapse of judgment, causes discomfort for days.

But then we heal.

Hopefully, we learn our lesson. Hopefully, we let that next slice of pizza cool before we dive into it. But hopefully, once the burn has healed, we go back to enjoying our food. We don’t wait for everything to cool to room temperature before we dare to eat it. We learn from the experience, but we let go of the pain.

We have been burned in life. Have we given the wound time to heal? If so, are we still walking around with the same fears and apprehensions as when it was fresh? Is an old wound still causing us fresh trauma?

Let’s give ourselves time and space to heal when we get hurt. Then, let’s go back to living. Let’s let go of yesterday‘s burns and enjoy today’s foods. Let’s say yes to the opportunities to grow, to evolve, and to experience all the beauty life has to offer.
