If information was the answer, then we’d all be billionaires with perfect abs.
~Derek Sivers
Learning is great, but learning to do is better. We can’t just learn what the right answer is for us; we must practice it. We must take our ideas out for a spin. We must test theories. We must find what works for us, then practice it into habit.
There are very few universal solutions to the biggest problems we face. What works for one may be a horrible idea for another. We only know if something is practical if we actually practice it. Even within the course of our own lives, it is entirely possible that a behavior that once served us is no longer of any use to us.
This is not to say that information has no value. We should endeavor to be lifelong learners. Information is a resource we can draw on to make better choices. But knowing something is a good idea does not automatically integrate it into our lives. Even if we are entirely convinced on the what, the where and the when need to happen. And it’s nearly impossible to be consistent with even that without a why.
Successful people largely have access to the same information as failures. The success came from integrating that information into their lives in a sustainable way. Let’s crave and seek information, then let’s exercise discipline, grace, reflection, and resilience to integrate that information into our lives habitually. This is how we get closer to our dreams.
