April 22, 2026- The Golden Rule Addendum

The preservation of health is a duty. Few seem conscious that there is such a thing as physical morality.

~Herbert Spencer

Our bodies are vessels for our souls. If we are not willing to do what is needed to maintain the ship, what does that say about our feeling toward the cargo?

Our minds have enough to deal with, already. Do we need to add to that by failing to take care of our bodies? Do we need to fight through poor physical health when our dreams are so difficult to attain, even in the best of conditions?

We do not need to be obsessive over our physical condition, but we cannot afford to ignore it. This body we have is going to carry us through all the challenges, all the struggles, all the progress, all the victories. Don’t we owe it to ourselves and to those whom we love to care for it? We will not care for it through punishment for some unplanned indulgences, but by setting intentions to nurture our bodies, then acting on those intentions.

There is a morality to self-care. The golden rule urges us to do unto others as you’d want others to do unto you. The addendum to that rule is to do for yourself at least as much as you would do for others.

You are worthy of care. You should be able and willing to prioritize your own wellness, your own well-being.
