April 23, 2026- Rest ourselves

Time: that thing which man is always trying to kill, but which ends up in killing him.

~Herbert Spencer

When we’re just killing time between one engagement and the next, we are still approaching the end of ours just as quickly as when we are doing our most important things. Time does not speed up nor slow down for us; it marches along steadily, and it is the personal resource that is our most valuable, as it cannot be renewed.

This does not mean we need to fill every moment with work or with profound meaning. It just means we need to value it, cherish it, treat it with the love and care it deserves.

Sometimes, the best thing we can do with our time is to pause, to create space for stillness, to have a place to simply be. We don’t have to fill every moment with work or entertainment or stimulation. We don’t need to constantly work for change in ourselves or in our world. We are allowed to stop and take a break. We are allowed to let ourselves experience a moment with nothing to do, nowhere to go, and nobody to be.

Rest is not killing time. In fact, constant failure to rest will kill us. Let’s care for ourselves, nurture ourselves, rest ourselves. Then, let’s get to work on evolving into the best version of us, one choice, one action at a time.
