July 5, 2026- Better tomorrow

Men’s views of things are the result of their understanding alone. Their conduct is regulated by their understanding, their temper, and their passions.

~David Hume

We are all just trying to do the best we can, given the information we have at the present moment. We are not all-knowing nor all-powerful. There are things we cannot do and there are things we do not know. This is not our fault. We have a limited capacity at this time and place. Hopefully, over time, that capacity will expand, as we learn more about our universe and cultivate our skills to interact with it.

When we explore our past and beat ourselves up for the choices we made, we need to be willing to give ourselves grace for the places we simply did the best we could. Would the version of us that exists at the present moment have done better? Maybe. Would the version of us that we will evolve into do better? We should hope so. Maybe the version of us that existed in that moment needed to make the very mistake we made in order to learn from and grow from the experience.

Life is a series of choices and there are consequences for those choices. Sometimes, the best outcome we can hope for is for a mistake to be made that we can learn from. Imagine what the best version of you would do, then do your best to do that. Sometimes, you’ll be wrong. That’s OK. Lesson learned. Do better tomorrow.
