June 20, 2026- Survival of the fittest

Extinction is the rule. Survival is the exception.

~Carl Sagan

It takes us far too long to let far too many things go. How many of those things are truly worth holding onto? How many of the daily routines we have fallen into truly serve us? How many of the stories we’ve come to tell ourselves are valid and helpful? How many of the people we keep close are truly worth the time and energy we’re giving them? How many of the people we keep at a distance really require our resistance?

Over the millennia, extinction is the rule. Things do not last forever. The Earth, for a number of reasons, becomes inhospitable to many things. It hasn’t always just been about humans being irresponsible with nature. Things have come and gone, never to be seen again. If Earth can just let go of an entire species, can’t we just let go of a habit that doesn’t serve us? Can’t we distance ourselves from a toxic relationship? Can’t we learn a different mindset?

Not everything we come across needs to survive. We can experience evolution right here inside of us. Extinction can be a means to greater strength, to the survival of the fittest.

What do we need to let go of? What do we need to let die away? What do we need to turn our time and energy to cultivating? What truly needs to survive?
