This reality we are living is simply our perception of the world around us. This means the next person‘s reality is slightly different from ours. Our own reality was slightly different yesterday and will be slightly different again tomorrow. We are each trying to navigate this world the best we can, basing each choice we make on the world and our relationship to it, as we perceive it at this moment.

Our brains are complicated. They want to protect us from harm. This is why they steer us in the direction we’ve gone before. We know we can survive those roads, as we are living proof of it. Because of that need to protect us, our brains might steer us away from noticing the things we didn’t expect to see. Perhaps they are keeping us from seeing things that may terrify us. Perhaps they are keeping us away from a riskier path, even though it may provide us with a greater reward.

This is why we must be so intentional about creating our habits and about reflecting on our actions. The things we do are so easy to repeat. Therefore, we must decide if that repetition will serve us. We must decide if we want to go down our practiced path or to face our fear of the unknown. We have tried before and failed, but here we are. We have tried before and succeeded, and here we are. We are our choices.
