If at first an idea does not sound absurd, then there is no hope for it.
~Michio Kaku
At least to some degree, whatever it is we have been doing has been working. We have survived this long. We may even consider ourselves to be thriving. But is this all we want? Do we believe we are meeting our capacity? Do we think things are as good as they ever could be? If not, how do we plan to change that? Don’t we need to be able to dream big?
Our dreams should be absurd. If they aren’t, what’s the point? We don’t need to dream about the things we can reasonably accomplish today; we should just go ahead and do those things. Our dreams should be things we need time to grow into, one small step at a time. Our dreams should be things this current version of us is not capable of, but we must have the steadfast belief in ourselves that we can grow into someone who will be.
We must dream big, but plan small. Every absurd dream that came true was realized by a series of choices that stacked small, sustainable changes on top of each other until the absurd was no longer absurd. We can do that throughout our lives. We can dare to dream about doing things we can’t possibly do today. We can use those dreams to set our intentions. We can exercise our discipline and resilience to turn those dreams into reality.
