Consciousness determines existence.
~Michio Kaku
Our world is what we perceive it to be; that is our reality. Perception is only a piece of our reality. Interoception is a bigger piece.
Interoception is our ability to be aware of, and to interpret internal signals. We sense a change in our pulse, sweaty palms, chills down our spine, hunger, desire, illness, or a whole host of signals coming from within, and it’s our job to interpret them and, at times, regulate them.
Sometimes, we get so bombarded with signals from the outside world that we ignore our interoception. We pursue a relationship even when it doesn’t feel right. We exercise even though our body is screaming for a rest day. We answer a craving, even though we’re not hungry. We keep reading when we are fully distracted.
Our existence is what we perceive it to be. If we want to live this life more fully, if we want a more complete existence, we must pay attention. Our consciousness is going to determine what type of existence we will experience. Our choices will be made based on the information we have available to us at that time.
Let’s be willing to notice the strong signals our bodies are sending us. Let’s use that information to make choices that serve us. Let’s exist fully.
