I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think.
~Rumi
How many of our lives' songs are stifled by our fear of judgment? How many risks do we shy away from due to our desire to avoid criticism? How many choices do we make, not based on the things we want, but based on the fears we want to avoid.
Our brains are designed this way. We are engineered to protect ourselves from harm, to keep ourselves safe. Safety does not always leave room for growth. When we protect ourselves from risk, we often deny ourselves reward.
Haven’t we failed before? Aren’t we still here, making our way through life, choosing whether we want to continue down the same path we've been on or to turn off in another direction? What are we afraid of? Failure isn’t an ending; it’s a signal to try again.
Might we look like fools sometimes? Of course we will. Are our dreams worth it to us? Aren’t we willing to endure a little bit of pain to become more of what we would like to be?
The best version of us will only be exposed through our choices. The path to finding it is crooked. It will wander through failure, disappointment, maybe even some humiliation. We have worked through all of that before, and here we are. Let’s stop worrying who’s listening and let’s sing.
