October 7, 2026- Our enemies
One of the most time-consuming things is to have an enemy.
~EB White
Time is a limited resource and we should count it as our most precious. What would we like to spend it on? If we are spending it on our enemies, what are we not spending it on? If we are spending it on the people who have hurt us, wronged us, made us feel less-than, aren’t we making some kind of investment in a message it doesn’t serve us to receive?
What would happen if we took the time and energy we spend on our enemies and spent it on ourselves? What kind of planning, what kind of reflection, what kind of growth would we be able to see through with that time?
We can’t just ignore trauma. We must allow ourselves time to acknowledge and heal from the harm that others may have caused us. That has nothing to do with maintaining enemies; it has everything to do with taking care of ourselves. We can clean and bandage a wound without taking time out to hate the glass that cut us.
How does it serve us to carry around hurt and resentment? Doesn’t that allow someone else to keep hurting us, even though their behaviors against us may have ended years ago? Are we willing to give them that kind of power? Let’s use our precious resource of time to move us into a better version of us, one choice at a time.
