Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.
~Seth Godin
Our choices led us to the life we are currently living. So many people are waking up every morning upset about where they need to go, what they need to do, and whom they need to do it with, but they chose this life. They’re looking for a way to take a break from the life they slowly engineered over the years.
Why would we need to get away from our own creation? If we do, why don’t we just do the work to create something else? Is that easier said than done? Sure. Do we have obligations in our lives that we can’t reasonably just walk away from? Probably. But we are not stuck here. Our choices brought us to this place, and our choices can move us away from it.
Change is never easy, and sustainable change is not quick. It took a lifetime of choices to get us to where we are today. It is unreasonable to think we can change it all immediately. We can start the ball rolling with just one small, sustainable change. Then we can build on that. Movement builds momentum. By stacking new behaviors slowly on top of one or another, we can build an entirely new life without ever doing anything drastic or profound.
Our choices brought us the life we have and our choices can get us the life we want.
