The character you possess during the drought is what your team will remember during the harvest.
~Jon Gordon
It can be a lot easier to align our actions with our intentions when the results are there to make us feel better. Our discipline should allow us to have that same level of alignment through failure and through struggle. It is in those times that our character is built.
Our character can be on full display when others are watching us struggle, but our character is not a façade. We can only pretend to be something we are not for just so long and, eventually, the truth will be revealed. True character has much more to do with the choices we make when we think nobody is watching. Those are the times we can practice. Those are the times we can evolve into the person we would most like to be.
We aren’t going to get it right every time. There will be circumstances where the moment becomes too big for us, and something other than our best is there to meet that moment. Discipline allows us to recover from our mistakes as much as it helps us not to make them.
Stay the course. Persevere. Whatever you practice during difficult times is going to be available to you during the easy ones. Practice makes permanent. Practice the best version of you into existence.
