Stress is a fact of life, but overthinking is optional.
~Nick Trenton
Stress comes from change. There is no way to avoid it. External factors, over which we have no control, make it inevitable. Even if we make every effort to remain exactly as we are, the world around us will continue to change. Therefore, our position in that world will be altered. We will be exposed to change, whether we are steering the ship, or if we are just along for the ride.
One of the ways we can limit the impact of that stress on us is to stop resisting change. We can be a willing passenger on this roller coaster of life. We can even understand stress as the boost that it is – allowing the best of us to show up and for us to rise to the occasion.
We make life so much more complicated than it truly needs to be. We ruminate over all the mistakes and missed opportunities of the past. We perseverate over the millions of possible outcomes in the future. Let’s simplify our lives by focusing on the present choice that is right here in front of us.
What would the best version of us do with the opportunity of this moment? How might we use existing stress to help us rise up? How can we lean into our resilience to meet this moment just as it truly is, without resisting change nor being crushed by its stress? How can we show up?
