November 22, 2025- The life we dared to dream of

You miss out on countless potential feelings of joy, gratitude, connection, and creativity because of your relentless focus on what could go wrong or what has gone wrong.

~Nick Trenton

Why can’t we find it in us to imagine all the ways our lives can go right? We seem to be able, at any moment, to imagine 1000 different catastrophes, but we struggle to form a vision of fantastic outcomes for ourselves.

Perhaps we are shielding ourselves from disappointment. Maybe we think that if we don’t ever dream of the best things, we don’t have to be upset when the best things don’t come to us. But what if the very reason we don’t get to experience those things is because we didn’t even dare to dream of them? If we refuse to devote time and energy to hope, why would we give time and energy to the sequence of actions that might facilitate greatness?

What deserves our thoughts? Do we want to devote our minds to the avoidance of our nightmares or to the pursuit of our dreams? What would be a better use of our time?

Things can only go right if we dream of what it would be like to live our best lives. Then, we can set about making small, sustainable changes to build the life we dared to dream of.
