It's only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you began to change, grow, and transform.
~Roy T. Bennett
Assuming our childhood bedroom was a safe, comfortable place, if our parents would allow it, we could stay right there for our entire lives. Hopefully, our parents insisted we leave it, go to school, make friends, and experience life outside those four walls.
We could have been sheltered within those four walls forever. Had we stayed there, we would have been like a goldfish that never got a bigger bowl. We would have remained small, as there would be no stimulus for growth, nor any space to grow into.
The fact is, when we reflect back on our early years, as long as we had loving, nurturing parents who could meet our basic needs, we didn’t have a lot of stressors in our lives. There are probably days now when we wish we could go back there. But we can’t, and we shouldn’t.
Our stressors provide us with opportunities to adapt. As we work through the discomfort of change, we have the chance to grow, to expand, to improve. Without a little bit of discomfort, there isn’t any reason for change.
If we want to step inside a better version of ourselves, we are going to have to step outside our comfort zone. Change can be scary, but it can also bring us closer to our dreams. Let’s get comfortable with a little discomfort.
