Human behavior is incredibly pliable, plastic.
~Philip Zimbardo
We could move to a different country and be OK. We can learn a new language, make new social circles, get a new job, and survive. We could change our name, start or stop exercising, eat new foods, switch our religion, reimagine our political beliefs, and keep going. We are not stuck here.
Habits are difficult to change. Once we make a behavior routine or automatic, it takes intention and conscious thought to do something else in place of it, but we can do it. Are our lives exactly what they were 10 years ago? Of course not. We have displayed the capacity for change over and over again. When we have a habit that no longer serves us, or never did, we are not bound to it forever.
We have agency in our lives. We always have the power of our next choice. We have no ability to change what happened yesterday and we have a limited ability to script what will happen tomorrow, but we have the ability to make a choice right now, and to follow thought with action.
You are worthy of your dreams. You’re not bound to your past. Choose as the best version of you would choose and engineer the life you dream of.
