Habits are the compound interest of self improvement.
~James Clear
We are our habits. We are not our thoughts. Our thoughts, as simple electrical impulses in our brains, matter to no one, but us. Until those thoughts manifest into action, they cannot define us.
As we begin to repeat a particular behavior, it starts to become formative because of those thoughts. Is this behavior we are compelled to repeat aligned with our vision of the best version of us? If it is, we start to believe in our ability to evolve. We start to find other opportunities to exercise our discipline – to align our actions with our intentions.
Unfortunately, there are times when our habits do not serve us. We find ourselves caught in a loop of self-destruction. Upon reflection, we may begin to think that we are not worthy of our dreams.
Each time we establish a habit that serves us, we make a deposit into an interest-bearing account. Each time we replace a habit that does not serve us, we pay off a debt that was also accruing interest, and we reinvest that money in ourselves.
One choice, one small, sustainable change, can change the entire flow of our evolution. Let’s make an investment in ourselves today.
