Sometimes what you don’t do is as important as what you do.
~Greg McKeown
Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, and neither can time. We can use it or waste it, but once the hands of the clock have moved, we cannot have that time back.
Any time we have a limited resource, we must be particularly mindful of how we use it up. Of all our resources, time is the most precious. Our happiness is dependent upon alignment between what we find important and what gets our time.
Are we stingy enough with that valuable resource? Are we giving our time to the things we value? Even more importantly, are we withholding our time from the things that don’t matter? Are we letting things that others value (or that we were taught by society that we should value) too much of our precious time?
“No” is a word we must learn to use liberally, and it can be a complete sentence. We do not need to use our time to craft a speech on the alignment of our time and our values; we just need to say “no” when that is the right answer for us.
Place a premium on your time. Make the most of your life between now and your unknown expiration date. Say yes to your values, and value time.
